What an eventful day!
Went to Oaira Elem. to do another school visit. Teach the kids some English~ I really enjoy teaching there now, especially the kids are just awesome! They're so sweet and very interested in learning new English words.
So, I went to work a bit early so I can prepare for the materials needed for today. That's as far as my lesson planning go. Go there a bit early, and then just write down whatever I think would work. Games, songs, vocab cards... though I think I should probably find some new materials since they are REALLY getting old... The kids might not mind since as long as they get to play "Gokiburi Game," they're all set.
Anyways, so I was carrying on the lessons as usual, and getting the kids to say "What is your favourite colour?" in "Gokiburi Game," that's when it happened...
EARTHQUAKE!!!
I didn't notice it at first. When the HR teacher yelled, "SANDY SENSEI!! JISHIN!! EARTHQUAKE!!" That's when I realized the ground was shaking... I have low blood pressure, so get dizzy sometimes... so to me, the ground is often shaking... :p
Then after my last class was over, one of the HR teacher said that there was an incident this morning when a strange guy just called out to a junior high student (who goes to the neighbouring juniro high), the kid ignored him, then the guy just slashed the kid's arm, supposedly he wasn't hurt that much.
It's really scary... especially since it's such a small town and you'd think this is the last place for something like this to happen... Guess it's hard to say these days.

On a brighter note, I had an awesome time playing with the kids today!
The Oaira kids have known me since last year when I first started, so we've built quite some rapport. They always come to invite me to play with them after lunch time.
Today we played volleyball outside on the playground, and it was loads of fun! There was a pond right next to the place we were playing, and we kept knocking the ball into the pond... ended up having to get it back, dry it as much as we can and then play again. A girl even got her feet all wet when trying to save the ball from getting into the pond. The whole thing was so stupid, but it was so much fun. hee hee~
Then when we were all playing, a girl came up and said "Sandy sensei, mune dekai ne." to me... basically saying that my boobs are big... I was half shocked, and half humoured... I've never been told that my boobs were big.. Yet I guess to those girls who are barely 9, my boobs are bigger than theirs anyways... :p Then she went "tsu-n, tsu-n!" trying to poke at my boobs.
After that, another boy came up and squeezed my arm.. saying that perhaps I should lose some weight! I couldn't believe it. Actually, this could be a form of sexual harrassment since I was at work... >_<
Anyways, all in all, today was quite an eventful day... ending with a great session at Kinro Seishonen Home, eikaiwa (English conversation Class). Got the kids talking to each other, paying each other compliments, asking how they got their stuff and where they got it. I really like this batch of students cuz they're really quite interested in English. OR, I just really made it easier for them this time :p hee hee
Tomorrow kindergarten visit at Keishin Hoikuen... gotta think up of new things to teach them... aaaaaaaaaah... >_< and gotta go to the folk museum to do some research for the scavenger hunt.. oi~

Kingdom of Heaven ~ A film review
Went to Kag city to see "Kingdom of Heaven" with Maru-chan yesterday.
Perhaps because I didn't have too much expectation of the film, I was quite impressed with it.
Maru-chan only wanted to see the movie because it was Orlando Bloom (and I'll bet more than 80% of the people in the theatre were in it for the same reason too...), but I was actually curious how they would treat the crusades theme as a movie, especially a time like ours.
With the war going on in the middle east, and the unnecessary declaration of the "holy wars," I think the movie did a great job of managing to tell the stories about both religions quite nicely. Not to place any blame on either side, but to state the fact of how we alter what religion has meant for us.
I'm neither Christian, nor a Muslim. However, I believe that fundamentally, all religions are the same. Be it Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, or Shintoism, Peace is the ultimate meaning for a religion to exist.
Whether it's to achieve peace between one man to another, or just peace within one's self.

Anyhoo, enough about the serious topic.
I thought the film was quite nicely done with great cinematography and awesome soundtrack~ The sound effect is definitely a great plus in the film. Well it is Ridley Scott, and the style is pretty similar to "The Gladiator." I can't help but compare the two.
Orlando Bloom is over-rated as Balian of Ibelin. He's supposed to be this troubled, emotionally disturbed guy who lost his child and his wife, in that order. He had to burden the responsibility of protecting the kingdom, yet he did it all without showing any emotion, other than the time when he was knighting the men in the wall so they would fight with honour. (not that they wouldn't without being knighted anyways...)
David Thewlis(the guy who also played Prof. Lupin in PoA of HP) caught my eyes and I couldn't remember who he was... until I came back and checked imdb. Hee hee...I knew I'd seen him somewhere~
Liam Neeson was a great Godfrey (considering his character is the only fictional one, he did an awesome job!), and he certainly shined in the limited screen time.
I had read quite a few reviews before going to the theatre and most of them are mixed reviews, either praising the film's artistic aspect, or just bash Bloom's incapability of carrying an epic film this big.
Oh well, all in all, the film was definitely worth seeing in a big theatre. The sound effect alone is worth the ticket price.
Oh yeah, and Orlando is pretty hot too. Just so we've got straightened out.

Yay! GOLDEN WEEK~~~~~~
Yay~ I never thought Golden Week in Japan would be so awesome!
Last time when golden week came when I was in Japan, I was still a student... so can't really take days off as there were still classes... Didn't think it was appropriate to take days off... :p Now since I have piled up so many of my paid leaves... I gotta take some time off...
Otherwise I would totally go crazy at work. Especially when there's absolutely NOTHING TO DO!
So, today i wrote up the stuff to ask for vacations.. and there it was. None of the top people were there so I didn't really have endure any questions as to where I'm going or what I'm gonna do.
Made the website of my CIR HP a bit better with some materials. I think I really have to gather the information to make the cell phone site better... oh yeah, I've been creating this HP that people can access from their keitai (cell phone). It's alot of fun and definitely a challenge. But I always love doing things like this. hee hee~
Ah, the fun of internet. I'm totally addicted to blogging... again... now keeping the Japanese one too... oi, this is gonna be really bad for my eyes.

DCT concert, SAIKOOOOOOO!!
Just went to my second J-pop concert last night!!! I went to DREAMS COME TRUE concert in Kanoya Cultural Hall… in KANOYA!!! The whole thing started with the poster that's posted close to the entrance of stairwells in the city hall… Hmmm Dreams Come True concert… is it possible that it could actually happen in Kanoya? I talked a few people around the city hall and they were all wondering the same thing as well. Well, the way to get the tickets is not by calling non-stop to some hotlines or line up days and nights at the ticket office… We had to send in the return postcards (which I had never seen before until then… It's two postcards connected together… one side is to send it there, and the other side is for the organizations/company/etc to send back as reply forms…). So we had to send the card in with our names, address… and stuff. Only one entry per household, apparently. So some people use their family members' names or even their babies' names… That didn't work out, it seemed.
Anyways.. I bought two postcards and thought maybe I could use my (then) supervisor Higashikura-san's name to increase my chances, but then I got lazy and just sent in one with my name on it… I don't know if it's because my name is in Katakana (so obviously foreign) or maybe that I have quite a few people who know me in the organization that sponsors the event (because of previous work stuff)… I got the tickets! Then I heard that the cultural hall can only seat 1200 people, and 600 seats were reserved for fan club people. So, that means only 300 people got the remaining seats (as 1 person can have a pair of tickets). In total… 13000 something people sent in postcards… wow… so I was REALLY lucky for sure!
I had promised Yamanaka-san who works in our office as the part-time lady that we'd take each other if one of us got the tickets, so she was my date to the concert. We had rush right after the bell chimed because the door opens at 6pm and we get off at roughly 5pm… thought I'd get hungry so I ate some kimchi and rice… then had to brush my teeth real quick so my breath wouldn't smell too bad.. :p
We rode in Yamanaka-san's car and we went straight to the cultural hall. As soon as we got there, there's this huge trailer that has the Dreams Come True 2005 Concert Tour Diamond 15 on it… I couldn't resist so had to take a picture of it with my cell phone (didn't have my camera because it's just gonna confiscated anyway…). Then we got our bags checked by the people and finally went into the hall… It was the first I had been in there… and was really surprised how… small it is… In Canada, I had been used to Edmonton's Jubilee Auditorium and GM Place in Vancouver… The Cultural Hall in Kanoya is just… tiny… but then it was probably a good thing anyway because our seats were like second rows from the back, so it the hall was big we wouldn't have been able to see that clearly… hee hee
So, we squeezed through piles of people and did some concert merchandise shopping…(Yamanaka-san and I both bought the cell phone straps of the concert mascot Daiman-kun and I even bought a pink t-shirt with the logos of Diamond 15 tour on it… I later realized that it was what Yoshida Miwa the vocalist was wearing when she came out! Hee hee it was sooooo cute).
As the time started approaching, we were all very excited… And, finally the lights went out and the spotlights for the stage lighted up… There were the band members and… Yoshida Miwa and Nakamura Masato came out!!! But the funniest thing was that, when Miwa was speaking.. her microphone wasn't working… Tried a few times but gave up eventually.. had to get a new one from the staff. She said that she's been on tour for 16 years and it was the first time her mike didn't work… so she would definitely remember Kanoya for sure. :p I'd rather she didn't have to remember it that way though. She was so sweet… asking how the Kanoya babies (boys and gals) are doing. After some brief chat, she started singing right away… with just the PERFECT pitch and PERFECT voice… it was definitely amazing! She sang all the songs in the new album "Diamond 15." In the song "douzo yoroshiku," I think a little tear came out of my eyes… Yep… I cried… because it was just TOO amazing!
In between the songs, she also talked a little about her feelings of coming to Kanoya… Masato started naming the places where he passed to go from the airport to Kanoya… with all the mountains, tunnels, Mos Burger, Kanoya Sports Uni… hee hee amazing how he remembered them all. Then Miwa talked about the food she was served.. like Kagoshima's traditional Satsuma-age, sweet potato sweets from Festivalo, and the delicious cake from Bon Vivont (spelling?). She also started speaking in Kagoshima dialect that she just learned earlier that day, like "Wazze yokunai ke?!"… It was so cute!
When the song of "Ola! Vitoria!" came up, everybody just screamed so hard! It was such a powerful song, and I'm sure everyone was waiting for it already. They have their own choreography so they were all dancing on stage… we the audience started copying the moves and suddenly it was like a dance party… (okay, that's a bit cheezy.. but oh well, we were on the highest of the high… can't blame us). After that there was a brief break where Miwa went into backstage (later we know she went in to change into another t-shirt), and Masato and the backup vocal Mika started getting audience involved in the singing. So they got all the guys to stand up and girls sit down (think purposely to get us rested a bit since we'd been standing the whole time). And the guys had to put their left hand on their waist and right hand in fist then wave it then sing "Hi no ji" in variation. When it was girls' turn we just had to nod our heads from left to right, right to left according to the rhythm. Hee hee some guys were so embarrassed so couldn't really do it. But it was all in good fun!
Then, my fave song "Love Letter" came up… I never thought I would enjoy live music so much… partly because I have this weird thing that if the singer can't sing it perfectly just like recorded, it was pointless… but I was COMPLETELY wrong!! It's all about live music… that's when all the emotion flows directly to people listening… ah…
Towards the end of the concert, the guy from Kagoshima city who was blind from birth but has AMAZING voice came out because DCT were good friends with him. He came out and they sang a song together (can't remember what song… sorry). I hadn't known about him before but apparently he became an instant celebrity awhile ago when his story was reported on national TV and people were all wondering about him… hmmm… want to know more about this guy…
The concert finished with the new single "Nando Demo" which was the theme song of winter drama "Kyumei Byodo 24 hr" about the event (if) an earthquake hits Tokyo and the emergency rooms' hardship and all the people doing their best in the horrible situation. I had watched the drama and definitely think the song fits the drama well. But when I heard it live in the concert hall instead of a CD or from TV… it's just completely different. I guess that's why people pay so much money to go see live music. Man, now I'm hooked!!!!
Finally, all good things had to come to an end, and the concert came to a close… We flocked out of the cultural hall and walked to the parking lot with the songs echoing in our head (or because the mini merchandise shops were playing the CD…??) Yamanaka-san and I went to Juri for some late supper and talked about the concert…while waiting for food, we e-mailed people and telling that we just went to see DCT concert. Afterall, I had to send somebody the pictures I took with the concert trailer! :)

Heather just came over and we did a little "The Amazing Race" marathon~ I gotta say.. it's alotta fun when you watch the show with somebody... cuz if I just watch it by myself, it's usually me talking to myself... You really need somebody with you so you can laugh and yell together. It was definitely fun time!
Today at work I didn't really "work"... as I was writing and checking postings of my Japanese blog all day long. I had to hide them and pretend that I was making my English conversation class curriculum (which is not even urgent at all.. for another month!). I was feeling so guilty, but seriously... without blogging, I have NOTHING to do at work! My new supervisor is still at his training session and there's no school visits for me yet. No translations, no nothing! I had to find something to do.
Anyways... I was hoping that if I pick up blogging again, like two years ago, friends back home can read it and see what's going on here in Kag, Japan. And my gal friends in Edm (yes, Jenny and Pam, you two~) can get to know about Japan a bit more too! Since Jenny will be coming to visit me next year!!! whoohoo~~~
ah... gotta fold my now clean laundry... was a nice sunny day~ ah~

I finally remembered that I still have a blogger account and I should probably write down what's been going on here in Japan... Anyways... here's my new entry since... uh... last year :p
Hmmm Just realized that Blog has become a huge thing in Japan now. It wasn't that popular when I started this blog, but then now it's a huge thing. There was this really famous one called "Densha Otoko" which is a blog with people writing entries to do like a story-telling relay. The story started with this guy who's the "Otaku"-- which is a name for the geeks in Japan... One day when he was riding on the train (in Japanese--"densha," hence densha otoko), he fell in love with this girl he saw. So basically the story goes on about how he was able to find true love, being a geek he is. Anyways, the blog became so popular that they even published the whole thing into a book, unedited and unabridged. They are now even going to film it into a Japanese drama. hmmm expectation rises...
Now just really bored out of my mind as I'm typing away in the office. It's April, just after the personnel overhaul. My kakari-cho (section chief) and supervisor are both moved to different sections; and the worst part is that my "super" supervisor is moved outside of the city hall... (oh btw, some update... Now working in Japan. at Kanoya City Hall as Co-ordinator of International Relations in Kagoshima Prefecture. I've been here since last August) So Higashikura-san is now out and about, and it's hard to go and ask him just any random question like before cuz then I'd have to either call or mail him on his keitai... because he doesn't sit next to me anymore. It's really weird that they change the people around the offices just so they can all get work experiences in different areas. If they are really good at what they do, why move them though? I guess there's nothing I can do about it anyways. The new supervisor seems pretty cool, but he's new and I actually have to teach him some things... It's definitely a weird feeling.
These days I have been taking a break from all the traveling frenzy last month. I spent too much money in February and March on traveling. Although it was all good times, I really gotta start saving some funds for going back to Taiwan in August. Well, we'll see how it goes. I'm planning on going to Fukuoka and Nagasaki in the Golden Week though... I just really have to get outta here once in awhile, otherwise I would go insane. (Like now... arrrgh...)

ok... so i know that it's been awhile since I last updated my blog... but lots of things happened and i think it's okay for me to say that i was too busy to blog all those things...
anyhoo... so now i'm back in vancouver with my family, and pretty soon i'll be going back to edmonton to get back to school... yikes, so many things to do, but now my mom is in taiwan cuz my mother's side's grandma is in the hospital and she is not well... :( i don't like this half because my grandma is suffering and my mom is, mentally, as well. half because i have been looking forward to spending christmas with my family after spending a year away in japan...
plus, we all promised that we'll go see lord of the rings: return of the king together ~*__*~ and other things... well, i know it's very selfish of me to think this... but...
so, since my mom is in taiwan right now, i'm responsible for cooking and managing the house... but now i find it a bit difficult cuz my two lil sisters are all grown up and they don't really wanna be confined in family things now that my mom is not here to tell them what to do and what not to do. Me, without much authority, cannot do anything about it. however, the good thing is i don't really care, cuz that means not much for me to do. hee hee~
christmas is coming and everywhere is flooded with people shopping for christmas present. the place where i'm working right now is this japanese dishware store that is quite a popular place for people to get christmas presents. after working for almost 3 months there, i'm kinda getting the hang of it. it's not too bad and the manager is really easy to talk to. the working environment is friendly. however, the customers are not always very nice...
since the store is located inside a T&T supermarket, lots of asian people go in. people from hong kong, taiwan, china, japan, korea, vietnam, philippine...etc. I found out that the way each culture's people bargain is a bit different.
hong kong: the people usually pick something that they're thinking of buying, but they spend 10 minutes telling you how it's not good, defected, colour fading, almost cracking...whatever they can come up with just to get some discount.
korea: they usually come and say that they want to buy this, this and that (alot of stuff) and then say:"I'm buying a lot of stuff so i want a discount." Then they put on this expression as if saying that you should be glad that we're here shopping, you know. so you'd better give us discount!
taiwan: lots of them come up and say:"hey, i come all the time, i know your store like my own backyard. HEY! i know you, you're that girl, right? i see you all the time. oh yeah, so i'm buying all these things to day, and i want to know if i can get some discount... see, i come here all the time, i'm sure you know......." and it goes on and on.
japan: "is there a sale" "actually, there are some items that are on sale" "really? where?" "right here" "oh, okay, thank you" yes.. that's it... japanese people don't ask for discount that often...
it's nothing to do with racial prejudice, just how i feel about it... so don't get offended if you don't like what i said ;)

Just went to my very first J-pop concert and it was fantastic!!!
Well, it's hosted by the record company Avex Trax and it's called "a-nation" outdoor summer festa, at Kasai Park facing Tokyo Bay. ...saw Ayu, Do As Infinity, Day after tomorrow, BoA, Koda Kumi, dream, Exile, and Every Little Thing... it was pretty nice seeing lots of artists all at once and listening to all the songs that i like of them.
It all started with dream, a girl group... well to be honest, I've never heard of their songs, so I was only standing anxious for the next one up.
And it was awesome when Exile came out and when they sang "breezin' - Together," I was just screaming on top of my lungs and singing along with them. Ah... it was just too good :p They were fantastic in live!! so glad :)
next up, Koda Kumi...well, didn't know her that much either, so just kinda check out her dance and also what other people are doing...
Then Day after tomorrow! I was surprised that not many people were much interested in them... I thought DaT was pretty good and I really like the lead vocalist's voice, oh well...
BoA!!! she's really REALLY cute..hehehe but her japanese kinda slipped a bit and she looked somehow tired when she danced, but she had the best entrance of all the artists. just when we were wondering where she'd show up as the backup dancers were dancing, she just jumped out of the centre of the stage in an elevated platform! it was pretty cool.
aaah... Do As Infinity was the best! It was just too cool when the came out, the whole place went wild!! I was standing on my toes and screaming the lyrics. waving my a-nation fan extremely fast. I think I had tears in my eyes... oooh yeah, the fan, it lighted up and looked exceptionally good when it got dark. really great when 20 thousands of people are waving their fans..heheh
ELT...heheh Mocchi Kaori was on fire!! aaaaaaaaaaah~ I was trying to take some pictures and not get discovered by the staff around the place,.. well basically photography and videotaping was prohibitted, but...well, we all somehow snuck some shots here and there... Kaori's really cute in the big screen.. gotta take it...
the final artist was, of course, Hamasaki Ayumi. Ayu had the best visual effects on stage. all the lighting and backup dancers... I kinda took some short clips of her songs... hehehe sorry :p
over all it was just an awesome experience and I owed it all to my buddy Andrew~ If he didn't ask me if I wanted to come along, I wouldn't even know that such concert existed :p And it certainly helped ALOT when he let me stand on his stool...otherwise I would've just been able to look at backs of ppl's heads.
ooooh and the finale was fireworks..hehe the first of this year's summer~ that was a good surprise. ;)
bought some Ayupan goods for my dear sisters and had the interesting gyoza dog~ yum... then squeezing towards the station so we could finally go home after a 6 hours of standing and walking around... I was walking funny because of the long period of standing on the stool..heheh
